William Lewis

February 5, 1945 ~ April 13, 2024 (age 79) 79 Years Old

Tribute

William (“Dick”) Clayton Lewis, Jr., age 79, of Pickerington, Ohio, passed away on April 13, 2024, peacefully at home surrounded by his family.

Dick was born on February 5, 1945, in Pickerington, Ohio to the late William C. and Marjorie (Courtright) Lewis. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Roger Allen Lewis.

Dick is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Cheryl (Petty) Lewis; daughter Randi (Jeff) Venables; son Bill (Melissa) Lewis; grandchildren Alexa Lewis, Will Lewis, Cayley (Alec) Rich, Mia Lewis, Piper Gatto, Carron, and Benjamin Venables; great-grandsons Krew Lewis and Cade Rich; sister Melody Wyckoff; aunts Christine Strawser and Phyllis Courtright; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Tyson.

Dick loved growing up in Pickerington, where he was class vice president and a proud 1963 graduate of Pickerington High School. He attended The Ohio State University, and was a lifelong Buckeyes fan. He retired from Western Electric / AT&T / Lucent / Alcatel Lucent in 2001 after almost 37 years of service. He and Cheryl transferred to Altamonte Springs, Florida where he finished his career, and then they moved to Lake Lure, NC, for a few years before coming back home to Pickerington. They worked at a Bed & Breakfast in Lake Lure, where he enjoyed being the 'boat captain,' and taking guests on pontoon rides around the lake. He was happiest to spend time with his wife, children and grandchildren, and watching sports, especially his favorite Ohio teams - the Buckeyes, Browns, Cavs and Reds.

Dick was an amazing son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and cousin, who always put family first. He was very loved and will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Wednesday, April 17, at The DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME, at 550 Hill Road N, Pickerington. A Funeral Service will be held there at 11 AM on Thursday, April 18, with visitation one hour prior. Venerable Paul J. Scanlan, Archdeacon, officiating. Interment at Violet Cemetery.

The family would like to express our deepest gratitude to the wonderful medical staff at both The James Cancer Hospital and Vitas Hospice Healthcare. We also want to extend our heartfelt appreciation to his niece, Maureen Rose, and our favorite nurse and close family friend, Christina Miller, for their loving care and support to Dick and his family as he made his journey to Heaven.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The James Cancer Hospital in William’s memory.
