Carolyn Whisler
August 15, 1928 ~ September 15, 2022 (age 94) 94 Years Old
Born August 15, 1928 in Faribault, Minnesota to Lester and Amelia (Wolf) Stemen. The family moved to Columbus, Ohio where she received her early education. Carolyn went to her eternal home on September 15, 2022. As a young adult, she worked in the Bond Department of the State Treasury and attended classes at OSU. Carolyn graduated in 1952 from OSU and began teaching in the Columbus Public Schools. In 1956-57 she took a leave of absence to teach for the Department of the Army on Okinawa. While there, she had opportunity to travel extensively in the Far East, visiting such places as Tokyo, Manila, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Bangkok. She married Howard Whisler in 1976 and upon her retirement from Columbus Schools moved to Ada, where her husband was teaching in the Engineering College at Ohio Northern University. Upon his retirement, the couple returned to central Ohio in Hilliard. Before moving to Ada, Carolyn had been an active member of AAUW and was a charter member of Lambda chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa. She later became active in the Grant Women’s Service Board and Women Today, A group she very much enjoyed before her death was the Scioto Ridge Methodist Singles. She attended St. James Lutheran Church for eight or more years before finding it necessary to discontinue her activities due to declining health. Her parents and two brothers, Morton and Wallace Stemen, preceded Carolyn in death. She was a gracious prayer warrior, and will be deeply missed by her niece Nan (David) Haynes and caregiver Linda Hosenfeld. Dwayne Spence Funeral Home of Canal Winchester will be in charge of arrangements. Burial at Union Grove Cemetery in Canal Winchester. There will be no visitation hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Carolyn’s name to Faith and Family Hospice, 630 Morrison Rd. Suite 310, Gahanna, OH 43230.
