Tribute

Charles Greer, age 80, of Pataskala, Ohio, succumbed to lung cancer in the comfort of his home surrounded by the love of family on Thursday, March 5, 2020.
Chuck is survived by his children, Brian C. Greer (Calhoun, GA) and Erin N. Greer -Tuck (Pataskala, OH); sister, Sandra McGill (Worthington, OH); brothers-in-law, Chuck (Jean) Carpenter (Canal Winchester, OH) and William (Terry) Carpenter (Columbus, OH); sister-in-law, Carla Washco (Strongsville, OH); life-long friend, Beverly Jarrell; grandchildren, Savanah McClung (Saint Albans, WV), Kaylie Hyatt (Nitro, WV), Caleb and Hannah Greer (Calhoun, GA), Logan Morris (Pataskala, OH), Mikayla Greer (Pataskala, OH), and ReGhan and Peyton Tuck (Columbus, OH).
Chuck was a devoted father, brother, grandfather, cousin, uncle and great uncle and friend to a host of extended family/friends who will greatly miss him.
Chuck is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ann Carpenter Greer; mother, Beatrice Floyd; mother-in-law, Dora Solt; sister, Janice Dyke; brother, Andre Floyd; and nephew, Corey Carpenter.
Chuck served in the Army National Guard of Ohio from 1956-59. He was a graduate of Central State University, and received his Master of Arts from The Ohio State University in 1971.
Chuck has been a member of the Pataskala community for over 40 years. He retired from Columbus City Schools in 1998 after 32 years of teaching. After retiring, Chuck spent his time traveling and supporting his children and grandchildren at their various activities. He was an avid sports enthusiast and loyal Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns fan.
A special thank you to Hospice of Central Ohio for your loving care and support throughout this journey and to Dwayne R Spence Funeral Home for your compassion and service during this difficult time.
Services will be held Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Pataskala United Methodist Church, 458 S. Main St., Pataskala, OH 43062 with the Reverend Nikki Baker officiating. The family will greet friends from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with the Celebration of Life immediately following. Burial will take place following the service at Union Grove Cemetery in Canal Winchester, OH.
The family will continue the celebration of Chuck’s life that same evening from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the family’s home in Pataskala.
In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may contribute to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Central Ohio in Chuck’s memory.
