Charles Edward Turley
August 11, 1926 ~ November 8, 2021 (age 95) 95 Years Old
God wrapped his arms around his faithful servant and took him home on Monday, November 8, 2021. Ed was a true gentleman. He saw the best in everything and led by example. His children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and all who met him are better people by emulating his behavior. Born on August 11, 1926 in Pickerington, Ohio, Ed attended and graduated from Pickerington High School in 1944 and went on to serve in the Navy from 1946-1947. After returning home, he attended The Ohio State University from 1948 to 1951 and graduated with a degree in accounting and a CPA license. He married the love of his life, Janet Behm in 1950, whom he met as an infant in a church pew and who later became his high school sweetheart. The newlyweds moved to Cleveland Ohio in 1951 where Ed began his career working for Coopers & Lybrand until returning to Columbus in 1957. After moving back to Columbus, he went to work for Bolon Hart and Craig, which later became Bolon Hart and Turley until 1978. Ed completed his career as Chief Financial Officer for The John W. Galbreath Company, retiring in 1992. Ed leaves behind to cherish his memory, his three children, Dr. Michael (Lynn) Turley, Barbara (Mark) Hanners and Tom (Tammy) Turley. He is also survived by his four granddaughters, Michelle (Andrew) Huffman, Lindsey (Tyler) Kelly, Taylor Turley, and Morgan Turley. He also leaves behind 4 great grandchildren, whom he adored: Graham Edward Huffman, Hannah Reese Huffman, Harper Ann Kelly and Hayden Marie Kelly. Ed is also survived by his brother Ralph (Martha) Turley. He is predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Janet Behm Turley and his mother Ruth Dagmar Turley. Ed was a 60 + year loyal member of Christ United Methodist Church where he served on the Planning and Building committee, Chairman of the Finance committee, Chairman of the Staff Parish Committee, President and Treasurer of the Friendship Class, Administrative Board Chairman, as well as serving as an Usher for many years. Ed was also extremely involved in Rotary. He was a charter member of the Whitehall Bexley Rotary Club, where he served in many capacities including President and Sergeant at Arms, and, until recently, had 100% attendance. He was awarded Rotarian of the Year in 2013, received the Service Above Self award in 2015, placed 1st in several Rotary Dessert Contests (competing - not eating!!) and was a Paul Harris Fellow. Ed’s commitment to this club was never ending and he loved his fellow Rotarians. He was also a member of TEECO, Pickerington Senior Center, Pickerington Historical Society and a member of The New Albany Country Club. Ed’s hobbies included watching and attending OSU football and basketball games and enjoyed watching almost any sport on TV. He continued his work and education in keeping up with current financial situations and providing good tax information to his family. His special joy was to watch his granddaughters in sporting events, volleyball, basketball, softball, field hockey and lacrosse. And most recently his great grandson’s various sports. Ed will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of being in his presence. The family is being served by the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY at 550 Hill Road N., Pickerington, OH 43147 (St Rte. 256) where friends may visit from 2-5 PM on Sunday, November 14, 2021.
