Clyde E Smith, age 89, of Canal Winchester, OH passed away October 8, 2021 at Violet Springs. Born October 12, 1931 in Stoutsville, OH to the late Elmer and Margie (Stebelton) Smith. After Clyde graduated from Amanda High School, he went on to join the United States Navy. He served for four years on the U.S.S. MacKenzie during the Korean War. He was always a proud veteran. After the service Clyde retired from Columbia Gas after 29 years as an Area Supervisor.
Clyde was a family man, he enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchild. He was an avid golfer, umpire for high school and small colleges and coached baseball for many years. He was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church and Canal Winchester Lions Club.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane (Custer) Smith; brothers, John, Roy, Ira, and Loyd; sisters, Ruth Thomas, Alice Frank, Ann Thomas, and Viola Vickroy.
He is survived by his children, Bart (Pat) Smith and Sandra Sorensen; grandchildren, Kyle (Rachel) Sorensen and Rachel Sorensen; great-grandchild, Olivia Sorensen; brothers, Charlie (Donna) Smith and Kenny (Jenny) Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may visit Thursday, October 14, from 5:30-7 PM at the DWYANE R SPENCE FUNERAL HOME 650 W Waterloo St. Canal Winchester, OH 43110. A funeral service will be held Friday, October 15, at 10 AM officiated by Rev. Jim Burge. Interment to Union Grove cemetery.
