Dan Eugene Theiss
November 20, 1929 ~ April 28, 2021 (age 91) 91 Years Old
Dan Theiss, 91, of Pickerington, OH, passed away at home on April 28, 2021. He was born November 20, 1929, in Seaman, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Opha Wylie Theiss, his first wife Patty Baldwin Theiss, and his son Douglas Theiss. Dan was a 1947 graduate of Belfast High School and a graduate of Wilmington College. He retired from the US Air Force Reserves as a Lt. Colonel. Dan had a 33-year career with Nationwide Insurance and retired as a Claims Division Manager. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Sue Ball Theiss; children Sue (Dan) Stottmann, Leesville, SC; Richard (Dora) Theiss, Franklin, TN; Julie (David) Davis, Columbus, OH; daughter-in-law Darcel Theiss, Columbus, OH; Ken (Judy) Grotsky, Pickerington, OH; Cheryl (Joe) Hale, Beavercreek, OH; and Kathy (Matt) Dexter, Reynoldsburg, OH. He leaves behind his loving grandchildren Bradley (Mallory) Theiss; KC (Raina) Theiss; Joe Stottmann; Ryan (Melissa) Stottmann; Joshua (Becky) Stottmann; Andrew (Marianna) Stottmann; Jeremy (Stephanie) Theiss; Kelli (Bryan) Dilver; Adam (Elisa) Worrall; Justin (Erin) Theiss; Elizabeth (Keith) Davis; Jennifer (Kyle) Morton; Marissa Grotsky; Caleb Dexter; and Cody Dexter; 19 great-grandchildren; brother Pete (Joan) Theiss; sister Shirley (Bill) Leininger; and several nieces and nephews. Dan was a faithful member of Lithopolis United Methodist Church, the Lithopolis Masonic Lodge, and the Lithopolis American Legion. The family would like to thank the staff of Fairhope Hospice and Palliative Care, particularly Christina, Darsey, and Melissa. We would also like to thank the many caregivers of Home Instead, especially Laura, Arlene, and Elizabeth for their loving devotion to our father. Dan’s second love (besides family) was the game of golf where he was known as the “Golf Czar”. We know there is a course in heaven awaiting him! He also tended a large garden for many years, inspiring us all with his knowledge. Dan loved to tease his grandchildren mercilessly, but underneath it all had a soft heart for each one of them. Visitation will be Sunday, May 2nd at Spence Funeral Home, Pickerington, OH from 2-5 pm. Services will be Monday, May 3rd at 11 am at Lithopolis United Methodist Church, Lithopolis, OH with a visitation from 10 am- 11 am. Interment will be at Violet Cemetery in Pickerington. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either Fairhope Hospice or Palliative Care, 82 Sells Rd., Lancaster, OH 43130 or to the Lithopolis United Methodist Church, 80 North Market St., Lithopolis, OH 43146.
