David Frank Cattran, 69, of Lancaster, Ohio died Tuesday, January 29, 2019 after an arduous battle with pancreatic cancer. Dave died at home surrounded by his family.
After graduating from Lancaster High School, Dave attended Asbury College, Kentucky before graduating The Ohio State University with a Bachelors of Education and a Masters of Science in Counseling. For nearly 40 years he taught history at Sheridan High School, Perry County. David passionately enjoyed traveling the back roads of Ohio in relentless pursuit of historical mysteries, stopping to enjoy a quiet meal in some quaint hideaway. Dave was a long-standing member of First United Methodist Church, Lancaster where he sang in the choir. Through the years he lent his tenor voice to several community men’s quartets including The Gloryland Quartet.
His parents, Orrie William and Dorothy Marguerite Alvis Cattran, preceded Dave in death. Dave was proud of his growing family and cherished time spent with them. He is survived by his loving wife Susan Emrick Cattran; a sister, Jo Ann Scott of Lancaster; two brothers, William (Rita) Cattran of Lancaster, and James (Marilyn) Cattran of Cincinnati; five sons, Douglas (Katie) Cattran, Kevin (Stephanie) Cattran, both of Lancaster, Chad (Kathleen) McGee of Pickerington, Nathan (Mary) McGee of Lewis Center, and Brian McGee of Greenville; and four grandchildren, Ashley McGee, Lillian, Alex, and Lucas Cattran.
Friends may visit 2- 4 & 6-8 Friday at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME, 650 W. Waterloo Street, Canal Winchester, Ohio 43110 where the funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. Saturday with one hour visitation prior. Pastor Larry Brown will be officiating. Interment to follow at Union Grove Cemetery in Canal Winchester.
