David Cameron Drummond

October 14, 1994 ~ September 13, 2022 (age 27) 27 Years Old

Tribute

David Cameron Drummond, 27, passed from this life into Heaven on Tuesday, September 13, following a courageous battle against leukemia. David was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in December, 2021. In the face of his disease, David lived each day with optimism, determination, and hope. He never said it wasn't fair; nor did he show fear when times were tough. It's true that David wanted more time -- to find a house, have a family, explore more places. But we also know that his trust was in the Lord throughout his treatment, and David is now home with God.

David was born in Columbus, Ohio, on October 14, 1994, to Sharon and Jeff Drummond, joining big brothers Andy and Josh. David was a very happy child. He loved dressing up as a cowboy, knight, or other character. In 2013, David graduated from Pickerington High School Central, where he played trombone in the band and performed in every theater production. We especially remember his roles as Georg VonTrapp in The Sound of Music, John Proctor in The Crucible, and Jean Valjean in Les Miserables.

At The Ohio State University, David joined the Fisher School of Business and seized the opportunity to study abroad at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) Business School. During that semester, David ventured to several countries in Asia and New Zealand, igniting a zeal for world travel. David graduated summa cum laude in finance from Ohio State in December of 2016 and accepted a position with Cisco.

David began Cisco's LIFT (Leaders in Finance Training) program in August of 2017. He was based in Raleigh, North Carolina, but spent a six-month rotation in Krakow, Poland in 2019. That spring and summer, David visited 16 European countries, exploring castles, eating in quaint cafes, and soaking in the culture. David worked as a finance manager in cybersecurity at Cisco. He was energized by his work throughout his treatment, and he enjoyed working closely with his team from home and while in the hospital.

Over the past five years, David put down roots in Raleigh. He was part of Vintage Church Downtown and especially relished his time with his close-knit community group. David's red Lab Sherman was his faithful companion on hiking and camping trips to the mountains and the beaches of North Carolina. Dave and Sherman loved visiting breweries, bakeries, and barbeque restaurants.

David was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Stephen and Natalie Drummond. Missing him here on earth are his immediate family: Jeff, Sharon, Josh, and Andy Drummond & Casey Parsons, of Pickerington, Ohio; maternal grandparents, Melvin and Shirley Babbert of Canal Winchester, Ohio; step-grandmother Ann Hente of Albuquerque, New Mexico; aunts, uncles, and cousins across the country; friends and colleagues in Raleigh; best friend, Park Lukich; and many other dear friends.

David, it is so hard to say goodbye. You are a gift, an integral part of our family. As the youngest, you adopted the best qualities of your brothers and forged a path of your own. Your enthusiasm for life was contagious, from the way you served up a sandwich, watched the morning sun rise above the Blue Ridge Parkway, and explored European cities. You charged forward on every excursion, guidebook in hand, leading us to a charming coffee shop, scenic overlook, or historic site. You were the best tour guide, and we absolutely loved spending time with you. You were also the best gift giver in the family, because you cared so well for others and noticed things. You will be sorely missed, but we rejoice that your battle is won, and you are with God.

To honor and remember him, we will gather Friday, September 30, from 4-9 p.m. in The Loft at Wagnalls Memorial Library, 150 E. Columbus Street, Lithopolis, Ohio.

There will be special music and remarks at 7 p.m. David's funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 1, at 10 a.m. at Walnut Creek Presbyterian Church, 600 Johnstown Road, Gahanna, Ohio. The church doors will open at 9 a.m. Following the service, David will be laid to rest near his great-grandparents at Glen Rest Memorial Estate, 8029 E. Main Street, Reynoldsburg, Ohio.

On October 15, from 6-9 p.m., we will celebrate David's life with his Raleigh friends and colleagues at Vintage Church Downtown, 118 S. Person Street, Raleigh, North Carolina. A memorial service in the sanctuary will be followed by dinner and games that David enjoyed, in the 1880 Room.

Flowers for the funeral service in Ohio may be sent to Walnut Creek Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating blood or platelets at your local Red Cross donation center so that other cancer patients may have the chance to continue their fight. Go to redcrossblood.org for more information. A donation to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society would also benefit patients like Dave. Other non-profits that David supported were public broadcasting (WUNC in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina and WOSU in Columbus, Ohio); Habitat for Humanity, and Compassion, International.
