David Bruce Hickman Sr., 79, of Pataskala, Ohio, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2017.
He was born on September, 23, 1938 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Thomas E. Hickman (Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Army) and Bernice (McCoy) Hickman. During his father’s active military service, Dave traveled throughout Europe and lived in Japan, Germany, and Hawaii.
He graduated in 1957 from North High School in Omaha, Nebraska. He attended both Doane College in Crete, Nebraska, and Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio. He had an extensive 40 year career in the automobile industry, primarily serving as a service advisor for several central Ohio dealerships.
In both his spare time and in retirement, Dave enjoyed attending auctions, working on puzzles, and was an avid fan of The Ohio State University, Cleveland Browns, Columbus Blue Jackets and auto racing. He loved working with his hands and creating things. He restored various antiques, repaired cars, and created crafts using various materials, including wood and slate.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Deborah Jean (Fisher); sons, D. Brian (Amanda) Hickman of Westerville, Ohio and David, Jr. of Columbus; grandchildren, Caleb Hickman, Aubrey Hickman and Nolan Hickman; brother, Thomas of Fairplay, Colorado; sisters, Marlene Morgan of Delaware, Ohio and Jolene Hickman of Columbus, Ohio; brother-in-law, John D. (Marcia) Fisher of Newark, Ohio; a special niece and goddaughter, Alicia Fisher of Grove City, Ohio; nieces, Sarah (Jared) Dosch of Nashport, Ohio, Amanda (Gary) Hargraves of Zanesville, Ohio, Amy (Kevin) Simpson of Delaware, Ohio, Carrie (Brandon) Kuck of Chicago, Illinois, and Holly (Patrick) Walters of Rapid City, Michigan; and nephew, Joseph (Brianna) Fisher of Hopewell, Ohio.
He is preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law J. Eugene Fisher and mother-in-law Marie Fisher of Gratiot, Ohio.
Friends may visit 4-7 pm Monday at the Dwayne R. Spence Funeral Home, 550 Hill Road N. (St. Rt. #256), Pickerington, where funeral service will be held 10:30 am Tuesday with Fr. James Klima officiating. Graveside service and burial will be 2 pm Tuesday at Poplar Forks Cemetery, Gratiot, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
