Donald Wylie Gillespie, age 89, died June 12, 2022. He was born March 25, 1933 in New Brighton, Pennsylvania to the late Alberta (Gaston) and Harry Gillespie. Don graduated from Beaver Falls High School and received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Geneva College. Most of his career Don was employed as an Industrial Engineer with PCC Airfoils (formerly TRW Metals Division) in Minerva, Ohio. After leaving the engineering profession, he served as Customer Service Representative for BJ’s Wholesale Club in Canton, Ohio and Charlotte, North Carolina. Although he lived most of his life outside Pennsylvania, Don remained an avid Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan. A devoted husband, father and family man, he is lovingly remembered for his gentle spirit, sense of humor, and good-natured teasing.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Miriam (Fisher); son-in-law, Joseph Quinlivan; Don is survived by son, Brian (April) Gillespie and their sons; Scott (Genevieve) Gillespie and Brad (Frida) Gillespie; daughters, Lois Whitenight; her daughter, Jennifer Govero; and Linda Quinlivan; her children, Lisa (Jason) Bowden, Joseph (Leah) Quinlivan, Lori (Michael) Crellin, Kati (John) Phillips; 21 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 5, at Peace United Methodist Church, 235 Diley Rd, Pickerington, OH 43147, where a funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society in Don’s memory.
