Ernie Doling will always be remembered for his booming voice, laughter, warm hugs, smiles and his never-ending desire to help people. Francis Ernest Doling, age 76 of Canal Winchester, Ohio died at the Pickering House in Lancaster, Ohio (FairHope Hospice) on February 12, 2024. He was born on October 27, 1947 in Oklahoma City and attended Northwest Classen High School. He obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Ohio University.

Ernie’s passion was to show love to all people. This was reflected throughout his life as a minister, Kids Camp Director, Coach, and Social Worker. He was a strong believer in life-long learning and had a passion for paying forward knowledge and experience in addition to his love. He spent time at Ohio University as an adjunct professor and routinely provided trainings related to end-of-life decisions.

Ernie was actively involved in the Canal Winchester Community since moving here in 1981. It’s not uncommon to hear someone yell “Hey Coach Doling” while visiting any local establishment. Ernie and his wife Jacque were inducted into the Canal Winchester Sports Hall of Fame in 2001 for their many years of service as volunteers with the CWHS Football Team.

Ernie is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jacque Doling; Daughter-in-law, Shiho Doling; Son, James (Holly) Doling; Daughter Dee Dee (Brad) Doling-Dade; Grandchildren, Brad (Kylee) Dade Jr., Alexis Doling, Rev.
