Franziska Handwerk

It is with great sadness we announce the loss of our wonderful mother and grandmother, Franziska Handwerk, age 88, of Columbus, on Tuesday, December 22, 2020. Born October 18, 1932 in Hausen, Germany to the late Engelbert and Flora (Herbert) Orf. She joined her husband in the U.S. in 1955, along with their daughter, Hilde. She was the bookkeeper for Handwerk Painting Co., and was a member of Christ the King Church and the Damen Sektion of the Columbus Maennerchor. Franziska was uniquely gifted in making a home for her family and was known especially for her chicken soup and Christmas cookies.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Helmut W. Handwerk, on Sept. 9, 2020; three brothers and four sisters. She is survived by her children, Hilde (John) Williamson, Etna, Nancy (Jeff) Karr, Canal Winchester, Gary (Nancy) Handwerk, Canal Winchester; grandchildren, Heather (Shawn) Kost, Holly Williamson, Laura (Josh) Friedman, Andy (Karlien) Karr, Kim (Derek) Lannoy, Ashley (Bill) Dixon, and Krislynne Lyons; ten great grandchildren; brother, Hans Orf, and nieces and nephews, Germany.

A private Funeral Mass will be held for the family at 11 am Monday at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME, Pickerington, with Fr. Ramon Owara, Celebrant. Family and friends are invited to view the service via the livestream link on her memorial page at www.spencefuneralhome.com. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.
