Harold C Smith

Harold C “Hal” Smith, age 91, of Pickerington, passed away on July, 19, 2021. He was born on January 21, 1930 in Akron to Crummel Carl and Mabel (Sparks) Smith. Hal was a graduate of Millersburg High School. He received his undergraduate degree from Miami University in Oxford, OH and his Masters from Ohio University. After graduating from Miami on a Navy ROTC Scholarship, he served his country during the Korean War. Hal retired from Western Electric in 1988. He was a member of the Gender Road Christian Church and the Telephone Pioneers. In 2015, Hal was elected to the Central Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame for his volunteer work over the years.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Emma Louise “Lou” (Garber) Smith; son, Kirk Smith; daughter, Heidi (Dave) Eveleigh; son, Trent (Julie) Smith; grandchildren, Travis (Emily), Elizabeth (Bryce), Michael, Trevor and Brendan; great-grandchildren, Oliver and Lily. Hal is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Doris.
Friends and family may call from 1-2 p.m. on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at the Gender Road Christian Church, 5336 Gender Road, Canal Winchester, OH 43110. The memorial service will be at 2 p.m. with Rev. John Romig officiating and streamed live at www.genderroadcc.com. Burial will be at a later date in Bellville Cemetery.
