Harold “Dean” Thompson, 78, of Canal Winchester, OH passed away on October 28, 2018, while vacationing in Gatlinburg, TN. Dean was born on August 5, 1940, in Gallipolis to the late Orin and Nellie (Hall) Thompson. Dean was the proud owner and operator of Thompson Landscaping for 18 years. During this time, he played the bass guitar for the Masters Men spreading the word of God. Family meant everything to Dean. He was a dedicated husband, a loyal father, and a loving grandparent. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He especially enjoyed going to watch them participate in all their activities. Dean was a mild mannered, good natured and kind-hearted individual, who was easy to talk to and always saw the positive side of every situation. He always had a smile on his face regardless of his own struggles. Dean will sadly be missed by his loving wife of 57 years, Sarah (Armstrong) Thompson; three daughters, Marsha (Mark) Fullen, Michele Bell, and Shannan (Todd) Anthony. Papa, as he was affectionately called, will be sadly missed by his five grandchildren, Ashley (Todd) Zaborniak, Joshua (Taylor) Fullen, Matthew Fullen, Shane and Luke Bell; and two great grandchildren, Aubrey Fullen and Violet Zaborniak. He is also survived by his sister, Judith Mcallister; several nieces and nephews. Dean is preceded in death by his two brothers, Loren “Bug” and Ray Thompson; sister, Eloise (Thompson) Waugh. Friends and family may visit 2-5:00 pm on Sunday, November 4, at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 550 Hill Rd. N., Pickerington, OH 43147, where a funeral service, officiated by Dave Waugh, will follow at 5:00 pm. In keeping with his wishes, cremation will take place at Spence Funeral Home following the service.
