Tribute

Harold R. Van Gundy (Shorty), beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend to all, crossed over to eternal rest on Sunday, July 31st, 2022. Born on October 30, 1942 to Francis D. and Thelma E. (Jones) Van Gundy. Shorty lived much of his life in the Groveport/Canal Winchester, Ohio area. He worked for Crane Plastics from the time he was 17 years old until the time he retired as Plant Manager in 2000.
He married Julianne Hoffman on August 3rd, 1963. She preceded him in death as well as brothers Gerald, Frank, John, and Glenn and sisters Suzy, Sally and Franci.
Survived by 5 children; Tony (Beth) Van Gundy of New Albany, Lisa (Howard) Gibson of Carroll, Harold Van Gundy II of Gahanna, Jon (Dawn) Van Gundy of Grove City, Nicole Nessley (Brad Benson) of Canal Winchester; 11 grandchildren; Deanna (Chris) Gualtieri, Alex Schiff, Meghan (Kyle) Imhulse, Jason (Hannah) Van Gundy, Jeffrey Van Gundy, Caitlin (Zack Nagaich) Van Gundy, Joseph Van Gundy, Cody Long, Hunter Nessley, Zoey Van Gundy, Zander Van Gundy; 6 great grandchildren, Adlai Gualtieri, Brysen Van Gundy, Gunner Nicolia, Julianne Brigner, Finn Van Gundy, and Chloe Imhulse, siblings, nieces and nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, cousins and many special friends.
Shorty will be greatly missed by countless people whose lives he touched. He was the most generous, unique individual you could ever meet and there was never a dull moment when he was around. He had an amazing mechanical aptitude and was forever working on projects for his family (whether you asked him to or not). He was a lover of music and spontaneous adventures and shared that passion with his family. He loved going to the beach where he could soak up the sun and just be warm. He had a special place in his heart for all children and would go out of his way to make them laugh and smile.
The family would like to thank Jane Heigel for her friendship, kindness, and caring support as well as Cap City Hospice services for their compassion, comfort, and care.
The family will host a Celebration of Shorty’s Life on Sunday, August 14th at the American Legion Post 677 located at 11410 Smith Rd., Lithopolis, OH 43136 from 2:00-5:00 PM.
