Henry J Barrows
May 14, 1938 ~ January 31, 2021 (age 82) 82 Years Old
Henry (Hank) J. Barrows Jr., age 82, of Canal Winchester, passed away January 31, 2021 at Mount Carmel East Hospital. Born May 14, 1938 to the late Henry James Sr. and Esther (Ross) Barrows in New Haven, Connecticut. Henry proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1956-1976 and served part of which was with the Strategic Air Command. After his career in the Air Force he was a member of many aircraft and military associations including the Historical Aircraft Squadron (H.A.S.), Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), American Legion Post 677 in Lithopolis. He was a beloved man in the family and enjoyed the time he spent with his wife Joan and sons. Hank had many hobbies, he loved building model air planes and tinkering with real ones, fishing, was an avid reader, private pilot and a professional ice tea drinker.
In addition to his parents Hank is preceded in death by his two brothers, Jack and Ross; sister, Mary Smith; granddaughter, Brittany Barrows; and great grandson, Mathys Hunt.
He is survived by his wife of 62 ½ years, Joan Barrows; sons, Henry (Priscilla) Barrows III, Patrick (William Lockett) Barrows, Steve Barrows and Chris (Susan) Barrows; 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit Sunday, February 7, from 11-12p.m. at DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME 650 W. Waterloo St. Canal Winchester, Ohio 43110. A memorial service will follow at noon with Military Honors to conclude. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you consider donations being made to The Wounded Warrior Project or The Historical Aircraft Squadron (H.A.S.), of Carroll, Ohio.
Joan and the family want to give special recognition and thank you to the Nurses and staff of Majestic Care of Whitehall for their care and love for Henry. We owe a debt of gratitude and a sincere thank you for the courtesy shown to Joan, and outstanding care given and professionalism while her husband and our father was in your care.
