Howard Thomas Yost II, 72, departed this world for heaven on Sunday, December 9, 2018, from his home in Canal Winchester, OH, after a long fight against the ravages of cancer. Tom was born in Columbus on April 10, 1946, to Howard and Julia (Alder) Yost. His parents and his brother, Greg, preceded Tom in death. He is survived by his devoted wife of thirty-one years, Ginger (nee Vass), step-son, Dr. K. Michael Webb (Margaret) and grandson Andrew Webb, Austin, TX, sister, Judy Ann Achey, Fenton MI, brother, Gary Yost (Amy) Westerville, OH, and many nieces and nephews. Tom was a 1964 graduate of Worthington High School where he was an outstanding swimmer. As a student at The Ohio State University, he was an active member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity and a distinguished cadet in the Army ROTC program. He graduated from OSU in 1969 as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army with a degree in Business Administration. Trained by the army to fly helicopters, Tom served his country as a pilot in Vietnam, earning, among numerous other medals and commendations, three air medals and a Bronze Star. Tom’s commendable service to his country is illustrative of how he lived his life. His commitment to helping others was reflected in every one of his life’s endeavors, from his sales work at Mason Supply Company and Favret Heating and Cooling, the offices he held with the local chapter of the Refrigeration Services Engineers Society, his participation in the good works of VFW Post 10523, to the countless acts of kindness and compassion he showed to friends, family and neighbors. In all these areas, Tom’s example of serving others was a living testimony to his Christian faith, a faith he nurtured at Grace Bible Church in Canal Winchester. As a long-time member and current elder of that church, Tom offered friendship and Bible-based counsel to his fellow parishioners, both young and old. One of Tom’s special gifts was his ability to connect with kids in a way that made him an instant and life-long friend. This deep connection with kids made him an effective and popular teacher of the youth Bible class at Grace Bible Church for over ten years. Tom will be greatly missed by the many friends whose lives he touched and whose friendships he cherished. To those who knew and loved him, Howard Thomas “Tom” Yost II will be remembered as a kind and generous man of God who worked in his own humble way to bless others and make the world a brighter place. Family and friends may visit 2-4:00pm and 6-8:00pm on Friday, December 14, at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME, 650 W. Waterloo St., Canal Winchester, OH 43110. A Celebration of Life, officiated by Dr. Matt Shackelford, will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, December 15, at Grace Bible Church, 424 Gender Rd, Canal Winchester, OH 43110. Interment will be private at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made Autism Speaks, 1060 State Road, Second Floor, Princeton, NJ 08540, or to Grace Bible Church, www.gracebiblecw.com
