James W. Hursey, age 87, of Canal Winchester, Ohio died May 21, 2018. He was born September 30, 1930 in Coshocton, Ohio to the late Carlton and Esta Hursey. Jim was a graduate of The Ohio State University and retired from the Columbus Dispatch after 37 years. He was a brilliant man who wrote books and a wonderful poet. Loved by everyone, he had many friends who miss him dearly. Preceded in death by his daughter, Carla O’Neil; brothers, John (Irene) Hursey and Robert (Mary) Hursey; sister, Mary (Selim) Rahme; and mother of his daughters, Doris Hursey; Jim is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Margie; daughters, Esta (Timothy) O’Neil and Julia (Royce “Lee”) Brooks; step-daughter, Amy (John) Mills; son-in-law, Sean O’Neil; grandchildren, James O’Neil, Connor O’Neil and Kathryn (Devin) Schoonover; brother, Richard (Minnie) Hursey; nieces, nephews and many dear friends. Friends may visit 5- 7 p.m. Friday at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME, 650 W. Waterloo Street, Canal Winchester, Ohio 43110 where a celebration of life will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Charles Martindell officiating. Private burial will take place at Franklin Hills Memory Gardens at a later date. Those who wish may donate to the CW Food Pantry or Honor Flight Columbus in Jim’s memory.
