May you rest in everlasting peace, Jim. You have left a great legacy behind as is shown by the people who loved you and whom you loved. Your video demonstrates a true American Hero--thank you for serving our country so heroically. Your family and friends are sending great prayers and condolences from far and near. I remember you from Rio Grande University--your dear wife, Joni, is a sorority sister of mine. To you, Joni, and your loving family, I wish you Grace, Love, Peace, Strength, and Understanding. Sincere Condolences in your loss of a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Love in AMB. Peggy Lewis

So sad to hear of Jim's passing, but now no more suffering and he is "home" . Jo-Ann Smith has been so faithful in letting many of us knowing the status of our classmates thru the years and when she sent recently that Jim was in hospice I lifted a prayer for him and just for him to be in God's will. It was my pleasure to have Jim as a friend and classmate at Barrett Jr High and at South High School. I had a job transfer back in 1979 to Murfreesboro, TN for four years and then on to Bossier City, Louisiana where my wife Sherry (Brookhaven High School) and I have been since and with family here will continue to be. Was looking forward to our next reunion to say hello again. Appreciate the occasional emails that Jim and I would share. That black moustache Jim had was just right for him. That and his smile, he could have probably sold many a car. I know I will see Jim again in the future and maybe then he can take some time to try and teach me how to dribble a basketball like he could. Really enjoyed the video that was put together for his remembrance and for our viewing enjoyment to feel his presence once again. May God bless the family during this time of departure and find celebration of his moving on to his Father in Heaven. George Herbst

Jim was a great guy, even though he himself called himself an Alpha Hotel. He was my First Sergeant at the 684th Medical Clearing Company, Ohio National Guard in Westerville when I first joined. He will be greatly missed. I offer this poem for the family and friends of 1st Sergeant Marshall:
Death is nothing at all.
I have only slipped away to the next room.
I am I and you are you.
Whatever we were to each other,
That, we still are.
Call me by my old familiar name.
Speak to me in the easy way
which you always used.
Put no difference into your tone.
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.
Laugh as we always laughed
at the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me. Pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word
that it always was.
Let it be spoken without effect.
Without the trace of a shadow on it.
Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same that it ever was.
There is absolute unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind
because I am out of sight?
I am but waiting for you.
For an interval.
Somewhere. Very near.
Just around the corner.
All is well.
Nothing is past; nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before only better, infinitely happier and forever we will all be one together with Christ.
Death Is Nothing At All

I have known Jim since kindergarden. He brought sunshine to every person he knew. And I know he is bring it to everyone in heaven. He no longer has to suffer and I am glad of that. I know how much you will miss him but he will always will be with you in spirit. He will never leave you. I see his face now.. I know how much he loved his beautiful family and had so much fun with his sister Marilyn. He kept his sense of humor right up to the end. The earth lost a wonderful human being but look what heaven gained and God is so grateful to have Jim with him. He is surrounded with so much love and peace. May God surround you with that same love and peace.
