James E. “Jim” Ward, age 72, of Canal Winchester, died Monday, October 1, 2018 at Canal Winchester Rehab Center & Skilled Nursing. Born February 11, 1946 in Columbus to the late Pearl H. and Annabelle Z. (Hoff) Ward, he was a graduate of Bishop Hartley High School and served in the U.S. Navy.
He was a former district manager with the Columbus Citizen Journal, and later was a courier for Dynamex and the Columbus Dispatch. He served as a marshall at The Memorial Tournament for 34 years, was a loyal and devoted fan of the New York Yankees, and was an ardent fan of The Ohio State University Buckeyes, the Clippers, and the Blue Jackets.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Rita A. Ward; son, Kyle J. Ward; brother, Larry (Sue) Ward; sisters-in-law, Ellen Evans, Sue Ward, and Margot Fenner; brothers-in-law, John (Barbara) Fenner and James (Doris) Fenner; cousins, Janet Ward, Sharon Stone, Nicky Ward; nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit 5-7 pm Friday at the Dwayne R. Spence Funeral Home & Crematory, 650 W. Waterloo St., Canal Winchester, where funeral service will follow at 7 pm with Fr. Brian O’Connor officiating, concluding with military honors.
The family sends a special thanks to the staff and doctors at Canal Winchester Rehab Center & Skilled Nursing for their care of Jim.
Friends who wish may contribute to Nationwide Children’s Hospital or the charity of their choice in Jim’s memory.
