Tribute

Janelle Marie (Speir) Preiner, 61 of Pickerington, Ohio was born August 2, 1960 in Wichita, Kansas to Richard “E” and Winona A. Speir.

After a challenging two year journey with pancreatic cancer, and with her loving husband and daughter by her side, Janelle passed into the arms of God on September 22, 2021. In the days prior to her passing, Janelle was also surrounded in the loving company of her extended family.

Janelle was an extraordinary wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, leader, mentor, and friend to so many. She was a dearly loved social butterfly, with a generous and kind-hearted soul.

In 1990 Janelle and Steven welcomed the birth of their daughter, and Janelle’s best friend, Christine Marie. Janelle’s dedication to her little girl was unmatched. Janelle never missed a softball game, school event, or social outing for her daughter. In July 2021 Janelle was overjoyed to be able to witness Christine’s marriage to J.D., the love of her daughter’s life, in a private ceremony.

Janelle graduated from Northwest High School (class of 1978) in Indianapolis, and continued her education at Indiana State University and Indiana University/Purdue University (IUPUI), toward a B.S. degree in Business.

A life-long United Methodist, her faith grew through worship, Bible studies and volunteering.

Her hobbies included making friends, traveling, reading, journal writing, watching cooking and game shows and vacationing. She played the piano for the delight of her family and for personal enjoyment.

Janelle was a positive influence and touched the lives of so many people. She had a caring and generous heart, and could see the good in people. She never met a stranger and was a friend and confidant to many. Several years previous, she volunteered much of her time as a Pickerington North High School band mom and became known to many as “Mama P”, as she treated the band kids as they were her own. Janelle always had a smile on her face and brought so much light and laughter to any situation. She was steadfast, charismatic, and warm-hearted.

Janelle set an inspiring example of leadership. Janelle was humble, but confident, and stood by her convictions. She set a high bar for all of us regarding family and friends. She will lead in her death, as she led in her life, with fortitude and joy. She did not lose her brave battle against cancer – through Christ she won an early victory over death by the Grace of God. She is alive in Christ forever!

Janelle was preceded in death by her father, Richard “E” Speir; her grandparents George B. and Frances M. Speir; Chester O. and Hazel E. Sechrist; and her uncle Robert Speir.

Janelle is survived by her husband of 38 years, Steven E. Preiner; daughter Christine M. (Jonathan Donal) Carlston, of Noblesville, Indiana; her mother, Winona A. Speir, of Brownsburg, Indiana; sister Deborah S. (Frederick) Foxworthy of Brownsburg, Indiana. Extended family members include: nieces, Katelyn (Scott) E. Van Winter and Elizabeth McFall and great nephew, Alex Van Winter, and former brother-in-law, Rick McFall of Evansville, Indiana, as well as uncle Mac Sechrist and several cousins (whom she adored) and an abundance of other extended family members.

Janelle’s family and loved ones invite Janelle’s friends, to join with them in a celebration of her beautiful life. Visitation will take place between 2:00pm and 4:00pm on October 16, 2021, with celebration of life to immediately follow.
