Dear Hans
Living in Europe I only had the chance to meet you and Hedy a handful of times. But I am endlessly grateful for those hours. You welcomed me with open arms during my few visits and I have never met a person more kind and gentle. I cherish these moments and will always carry you in my heart. I am so sad that you had to leave now. But we will always remember you, which means you will always be a part of us. This makes me happy.

Hi Herb,
I was sorry to read about the loss of your dad. I remember meeting your parents at the Fine Arts building at the Ohio State Fair years ago when I was first playing in Don Smith's brass quintet. Such nice folks. I lost my father, Lot Smith, to Parkinson's disease in 2002. Even though we wouldn't have wanted to prolong his life of misery, we surely miss him. But, thanks to Jesus, we will all be reunited again. May God grant you His grace and peace. (Your name comes up from time to time in rehearsals and we miss your fine trumpet playing.)
