John Neal Reed

John Neal Reed, 82, of Pickerington, OH died on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at his residence. Born on May 18, 1936 to the late Edwin Goodhue and Myrtle Cobb Reed, John was raised in Alabama, attended West Point Military Academy and transferred to Georgia Tech, where he played football and graduated in 1959. He worked as a manager in the trucking industry for 40 years and retired in 1997 as Terminal Manager after 25 years with Overnite Transportation Company in Columbus. John was a long time member of Peace United Methodist Church and former member of Reynoldsburg United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Albertville, AL. John was a man of great faith, honor, and integrity. He will always be remembered as the ultimate Southern gentleman and an incredibly kind and gentle man. He loved God, cherished his family, and lived a long and worthy life. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Judith Allen Reed; children, Julia Reed (Richard) Covert, Jan Reed (Michael) Little, and James Richard Reed; grandchildren, Lee Allen Little, Erin Jeannette Covert, Maria Elizabeth (Michael) Yingling, Kelly Anne (Matt) Sowers, Thomas Richard Covert, Audrey Clara Covert, Emily Jane Covert, Tiffany Anne Reed, and Natalie Anne Reed; great-grandchildren, Jackson Tyler Little and Connor Michael Yingling; siblings, Frank (Danna) Reed, Jane (John) Garner; sisters-in-law, Martha Jean Reynolds and Cathy Swinburg; and many nephews and nieces. John was preceded in death by his siblings, Ewell (Alice Jean) Reed, Clifford (Helen) Reed, Clara (Jack) Thompson, and Ralph Reed; and his brothers-in-law, Kenneth Allen and Larry Swinburg. Friends may visit from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Peace United Methodist Church, 235 Diley Rd., Pickerington, OH 43147, where a memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 13, 2018.
