John R. Tong

John R. Tong, age 78, of Pickerington, died Sunday, May 28, 2023 at his residence. Born December 19, 1944 in Columbus to the late Robert T. and Janet (Scott) Tong. He was a 1962 graduate of Grove City Pleasant View High School and attended The Ohio State University, where he belonged to the Alpha Rho Chi fraternity and was a stadium usher for over 20 years. He served six years in the U.S. Army Reserve and attended Glenwood United Methodist Church. He was a retired engineer with Ventura Engineering, and was formerly employed at United McGill.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Judy Tong; children, Jona (Tony) Schmitt, Heath, and Jeff (Missie) Tong, Baltimore; grandchildren, Lily (Colin) Lime, Joey Schmitt, and Lindsay Schmitt; sister, Sandy (Franklin) Imado, Florida; sister-in-law, Patti Grinstead; aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, other extended family and friends, and his kitty, Maggie.
He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Jim Grinstead.
Services will be private, with interment later at Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org) or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) in John’s memory.
