John R. “Jack” Wittenmeier, age 83, of Pickerington, died Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Mt. Carmel East Hospital. Born August 6, 1937 in Columbus to the late Charles & Margaret (Strapp) Wittenmeier. He was a graduate of Rosary High School and The Ohio State University, and served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a retired writer for the Spectator and Columbus Dispatch, and later Nationwide Public Relations. He was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast, especially the Buckeyes, Indians, and Braves.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Cecilia; daughter, Jennifer (Jeffrey) Wittenmeier Whaley, Plain City; son, Andrew (Alice Chambly) Wittenmeier, Columbus; granddaughters, Papa’s sunshine Ashley (Tyler) Barton and Olivia Whaley; brother, Jerry Wittenmeier, California; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and was looking forward to welcoming his first great-grandchild in September.
A Funeral Mass will be held 10 am Monday at Church of Our Lady, 5225 Refugee Rd., Columbus, 43232 with Fr. James Coleman officiating. Private interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
