Joseph Richard Stokes

October 25, 1987 ~ May 7, 2022 (age 34) 34 Years Old

Tribute

Joseph “Joey” Stokes, age 34, of Canal Winchester, OH passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 7, 2022. Joey was born on October 25, 1987, to his loving parents, Margie “Jody” and William “Tony” Stokes. He grew up primarily in Lancaster, OH, attending Bloom-Carroll High School as a member of the class of 2006.

He worked in the Information Technology field, a career that suited his lifelong love of computers and electronics. Joey loved horses and was a natural equestrian, a hobby that he had shared with his mother since he was a child. He also loved the outdoors, music, and spending time with his nephew, Sam.

Above all, he loved his girlfriend, Sara, more than anything or anyone else in this world. She meant everything to him, and he was excited for the future that they were building together. He spoke often about his excitement to one day marry the love of his life and start a family together. Before he passed, he presented the engagement ring that he lovingly designed, to her mother and had expressed his intention to ask Sara to marry him. Sadly, he never had the chance to do so.

Preceded in death by his grandpa, Richard “Pete” Stebelton; grandma, Vivian Wells; grandparents, James and Jean Stokes. Survived by his parents, Margie “Jody” and William “Tony” Stokes; his girlfriend of nearly 5 years, Sara James, and their dog Brutus; sister, Jean Tackett (Stephen) and nephew, Samuel Weidner; as well as his extended family that included aunt, uncles, and many cousins. Joey was loved deeply by his family and his many friends, and he will be greatly missed by those who were fortunate enough to know him.

A visitation will be held Saturday, May 14, from 5-7PM at DWAYNE R SPENCE FUNERAL HOME 650 W Waterloo St. Canal Winchester, OH. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Helping Hoof – Equine Assisted Therapeutic Activities and Learning.
