Ken Augenstein Mercer, age 82, of Columbus, died May 2, 2018 at his home due to COPD complications. He was born October 5, 1935 in Coshocton, Ohio to the late Kenneth Eugene Mercer and Fern Augenstein Mercer. Ken grew up in North College Hill, a suburb of Cincinnati. He was a 1953 graduate of North College Hill High School and attended The Ohio State University. Ken worked for the Pease Company of Hamilton, Ohio for a number of years. Later he was self-employed, first as a builder, then as owner of Woodcrafter’s Supply. Ken was a member of New England Masonic Lodge No.4, Aladdin Shrine, the Building Industry Association of Columbus, the Columbus Apartment Association, the Central Ohio Chapter of Muskies, Inc. Ken enjoyed woodworking (was currently building a second kayak, fishing, lapidary, photography, playing euchre and other card games.
Ken is survived by his wife, Frances Schaer Mercer; son, Jeffrey Jon Mercer; daughter, Martha Annette Mercer; daughter-in-law Carolyn Regan Mercer, granddaughter, Claire Frances Mercer, and many other extended family members.
Family and friends are invited to gather at 317 Stanbery Avenue, Bexley, Ohio 43209 on Wednesday, May 16 from 2- 4 p.m. to remember the life and times of Ken.
