Loring Bates, 91, passed away October 17, 2020. He was born April 29, 1929 in Columbus, OH to the late Paul and Vera Bates. Loring was a United States Army Veteran. He was a computer programmer with Nationwide Insurance where he retired after 37yrs. Loring was known to be the largest blood donor with the American Red Cross; he loved to play softball, riding his bike, golfing and taking his dog on walks. Loring was an Ohio State Buckeyes fan and became a Red Coat Usher. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church for 50 years where he was a devoted man of faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Bates and brother, Paul Edward (Ruth) Bates. Survivors include his daughter; Carolyn (David) Zimmer; son, Michael (Nancy) Bates; their children, Christian (Diana), Sarah (Mike), Andrew (Madison); daughter, Barb (Jack) Hanna; their children, Matthew (Beth), Emily, Jacob; daughter, Linda (Tom) Bland; their child Jason; and son, Steve (Sandy) Bates; their children, Stephanie, Ryan, and Spencer (Abby); great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Johnny, Laten, Claire, Jude, Parker, Tristan, Damon, Jackson, and Charlie; and brother Robert (Pat) Bates.
Memorial service will be private for the family due to COVID-19 concerns, another memorial service will be held in the Spring/Summer of 2021 for friends to come celebrate the life of Loring.
