Marcella Marie Jones

Marcella M. Jones passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2021, in Reynoldsburg, Ohio, after more than a thirteen year battle with the relentless adversaries of vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 88. Born to the late Joseph and Mary Biddle on November 20, 1932, in Columbus, Ohio, Marcella spent her childhood and most of her adult life on the southside of Columbus. She married Louis C. Jones in 1950 and shared her life with “Louie” until his passing in 2007.

Most of Marcella’s working life was spent at McGraw Hill/SRA Publishing. She met wonderful people during those years and enjoyed friendships beyond her retirement. She passionately enjoyed reading fictional novels. Courtroom dramas, mysteries, and an assortment of other genres kept her interest in the evenings, weekends, and so often that Louie would affectionately describe her as “always having her nose stuck in a book”. Marcella and Louie were fortunate to travel, making trips to Alaska, Hawaii, and many family vacations. She also enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino in Wheeling.

Marcella was preceded in death by her aforementioned husband Louis, grandson Corporal Dustin A. Derga (2005), sisters Mary, Carolyn, Barbara, and brothers Paul and Mike. She is survived by daughter Stephanie Derga and son Craig (Ellen) Jones. Granddaughter Kristin (Brandon) Harmon, granddaughter McKenna Jones, and grandson Carson Jones. Great-grandchildren Rylee and Nash Harmon.
