Mathew T. Whetnall

Mathew T. Whetnall, age 42, of Pataskala, died Sunday, January 22, 2023 at his residence. Born March 9, 1980 in Columbus to the late George W. and Patty L. (Reppert) Whetnall. He was a graduate of Watkins Memorial High School. Matt served 9 years in the U.S. Army, 101st Airborne, 506 Infantry, serving two deployments in Afghanistan, Operation Enduring Freedom, receiving a Purple Heart, and served 6 years in the U.S. Army Reserve.
He is survived by his wife, Cassandra Whetnall; sons, Trevor and Liam Whetnall; daughter, Serena Whetnall; aunt and uncle, Laura and Howard Heimlich; father- and mother-in-law, Kenneth and Julie Kern; cousins, Dallas “Ed” (Sandy) Fairall, and Jackie (Jim) Fausnaugh; and other extended family and friends.
Friends may visit 2-4 pm Saturday, January 28 at the Dwayne R. Spence Funeral Home, 550 Hill Rd N (St. Rt. #256), Pickerington, where funeral service will follow at 4 pm with the Rev. Ryan Sargent officiating. Interment will take place later at Arlington National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to the Gary Sinise Foundation (www.garysinisefoundation.org) in Matt’s memory.
