Meredith William Richard, 95, of Columbus, passed away on August 25, 2019, in Worthington, Ohio. He was born April 3, 1924, in Woodstock, Virginia to the late Charles and Virginia Richard. Meredith is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Opal (McGraw); son, Gary (Susan) Richard; granddaughters, Melinda (Andrew) Kerr, Maria (Austin) Moore; great-grandchildren, Matthew Kerr, Kasey Kerr, Asher Moore, Judah Moore, and Melody Moore as well as many nephews and neices. He is preceded in death by his son, Timothy William Richard; sister, Evelyn (Richard) Kelly; and twin brother, Marvin Richard. Meredith grew up in Circleville, Ohio. He graduated from Circleville High School and attended Franklin University. Meredith proudly served in the US Navy during World War II on the Battleship USS Texas, and fought in the battle of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He married Opal McGraw on March 19, 1955 and had two sons, Gary Lee and Timothy William. He worked as an industrial engineer for General Motors for 18 years in Columbus, Ohio. He also worked as a title clerk for Nissan North for a number of years. He served the Columbus Prison Association for 32 years and 12 years with the Prison Fellowship International ministering to inmates throughout the state. Meredith found his faith aboard the USS Texas in 1944 and faithfully served the Lord and his church ever since. He was a long time member of the Assemblies of God, and later became a member of Fairfield Christian Church in Lancaster, Ohio. Meredith leaves behind a legacy of faithfulness to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and will be remembered for his gentle spirit and his loving heart. Family and friends may visit 10-11:00am on Saturday, August 31, at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME, 650 W. Waterloo St., Canal Winchester, OH 43110, where a funeral service will follow at 11:00am. Interment Franklin Hills Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Meredith’s name to Worthington Christian Village, 165 Highbluffs Blvd., Columbus, Ohio 43235.
