Muriel Lauretta Guiler

Muriel Lauretta (Hilborn) Guiler, age 98, of Canal Winchester, OH, relying on her faith in the finished work of her Savior, Jesus, left this world peacefully on the morning of July 11, 2017. She was born on July 31, 1918 to the late Merrill Edwin and Vinnie Etta (Humphrey) Hilborn. She graduated from Tiro High School in 1936, attended Ohio Northern University and The Ohio State University. She worked briefly as a Dentist’s assistant, and a store clerk, and then for many years as a Voting Precinct Presiding Judge for the Franklin County Board of Elections. She was a member of Peace Free Lutheran Church in Canal Winchester. Prior to residing at the Canal Winchester AlterCare, she was very involved in church and community activities.

Preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Hathaleen M. (Hilborn) and Glenn J. Cotsamire, Dr. Gilbert S. Guiler, her loving husband of 57 years, and her daughter, Dianne R (Guiler) Triplett, she is survived by her son, G. Scott (Carol) Guiler and daughter, Nancy (Bill) Kishel, 8 grandchildren, Lauretta (Rick) Ellis, Sarah (Nick) Kallis, Gilbert (Lisa) Wilson, Chandler Virostek, William Kishel, Cameron (Sarah) Kishel, Gregory (Lea) Guiler, Abigail (Chad) Turner, and 15 great-grandchildren.

Muriel kept in touch with hundreds of people, including many that she and Gil had met during their WWII times and travels, and warmly welcomed into her home any who could come. She liked to read and travel. She and Gil saw many places, from Alaska and Hawaii to Israel. She was a kind, gracious and hospitable woman, who will be greatly missed.

Family and friends may visit from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Friday, July 14 at Dwayne R. Spence Funeral Home, 650 W. Waterloo St. Canal Winchester, OH 43110. A funeral service, officiated by the Reverend Michael Johnson, will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, July 15 at Peace Free Lutheran Church, 28 Elm St., Canal Winchester. Interment Union Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Peace Free Lutheran Church or the Grace Bible Church Missions fund.
