Patrick joseph Murtha

Patrick “Joe” Murtha, age 84 of Columbus, died June 26th, 2022, surrounded by loved ones, after a brief battle with COVID-19. Born April 18. 1938 to the late Patrick A. Murtha and Doris (Egger) Murtha. He is preceded in death by his infant son Timothy R. Murtha and his sister Patti Haban.

Survived by his children Michael J. Murtha, Kevin P. Murtha, Brenda C. Murtha, Brian S. Murtha (Gretchen Madl Murtha) and Christy Murtha and by his grandchildren Matthew J. Murtha, Evan M. Kurnot-Murtha (Mike Kurnot-Murtha), Mark R. Murtha and Kelly T. Murtha. Also survived by his close friend Sara Rowe Walsh.

He was a 1956 graduate of Holy Family High School and served in the U.S. Marine Reserves. He earned bachelor’s degree from Ohio Dominican College in business administration.
He retired from Ohio Bell where he was an electrical engineer foreman.

Patrick was former director of Telhio Credit Union as well as a long-time board member.
He was a long-time member of The Bexley-Whitehall Rotary Club and Central Ohio Management Association. Prior to his illness, Patrick was an active parishioner at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Patrick enjoyed fishing, gardening, and growing house plants.

Catholic Funeral Mass will be at the Mother of Sorrows Chapel at St. Joseph’s Cemetery on July 11th at 11:00am followed by grave side blessing.
