Pleas Roland Thornton, Jr., age 56, of Grove City, died Friday, November 19, 2021 at OSU/Wexner Medical Center. Born March 27, 1965 in Gary, Indiana to the late Pleas and Charlotte (Buckingham) Thornton. He was a Disabled American Veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. He was proud of his service to our country, and loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed shooting pool and bowling.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Mary Thornton; children, Gerard (Gladys) Johnson, Dina (Carlos) Mitchell, Felicia (Robert) Jones, Aja (fiancé, Jay) Johnson, Charlotte Thornton; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brothers, Tommy (Tina) Spencer and Roland Thornton; nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his sister, Latina Joyce Thornton; and grandparents, Prenell and Turner Island.
Friends may visit 2-5 pm Thursday at the Dwayne R. Spence Funeral Home, 550 Hill Rd N (St. Rt. #256), Pickerington, where funeral service with military honors will follow at 5 pm. Interment will be later at Dayton National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to Wounded Warrior Project in his memory.
