Robert Frederick Popp, 76, currently of Pickerington, OH, and formerly of Ford City, PA, died Wednesday, June 1, 2022, in the comfort of his home.
He was born on May 23, 1946 in Plumcreek Township, PA to Frank and Mildred (Boyer) Popp. Bob was a 1964 graduate of Elderton Jr/Sr High School and a Vietnam veteran having served in the United States Army.
He was a member of Epiphany Lutheran Church in Pickerington and a former member of Emmanuel (Heilman) Lutheran Church in Ford City. He made his living as a truck driver, having worked for Raymond Schall Trucking and Freeport Transport in Western PA and for Burko Trucking and Liberty Tire in Central OH. Once retired, he took property photos for The Insurance Advisor Group – Justice Agency in Pickerington.
In 2000, Bob and his wife moved to central Ohio to be closer to his daughter’s family. He was a tremendously proud grandfather and attended all of his grandchildren’s sporting events and activities.
Survivors include his wife, Margie (Fennell) Popp, whom he married Oct. 21, 1972; one daughter, Jennifer (Sean) Maziarz of Pickerington; two grandsons, Nathan Maziarz of New Albany, OH and Hayden Maziarz of Pickerington; one granddaughter, Lindsey Maziarz of Pickerington; one sister, Nancy Schrecengost of Elderton, PA; two brothers, Thomas (Phyllis) Popp of Elderton and Dennis (Shirley) Popp of Akron, NY; and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Richard Popp; his in-laws, Veryle and Myrtle Fennell; and his son, Jeffrey Robert Popp, who died in 2018.
Per his wishes, there will be no public visitation or funeral service. Interment will be at Heilman Cemetery, where he will be buried beside his son, Jeff. Memorial contributions may be made in Bob’s memory to the Emmanuel (Heilman) Church Cemetery Fund, 854 Garretts Run Rd, Ford City, PA 16226.
