James Franklin Engel, 86 of Baltimore, Ohio left this life on September 10, 2017 at home under the care of his loving wife, Nancy and her sister, Janet Monk. Jim was born December 10 in Uhrichsville, Ohio to the late Michael Lawrence and Mary Louise Engel.
Jim graduated from New Philadelphia, Ohio high school and immediately joined the United States Air Force. He served four years and joined the Columbus Ohio Police force (Badge # 280). He faithfully served 30+ years before retiring. Jim is now a lifetime member of National Fraternal Order of Police. He then became a Franklin County Deputy Sheriff. His fellow police officers nicknamed him “Trigger”. He also worked as a tax preparer for 25 years. Jim is also a lifetime member of the VFW, the American Legion, the Scottish Rite and Grand Lodge F&AM of Ohio Baltimore Lodge #475. Jim had also achieved the 32nd degree with the lodge. Jim was an avid Buckeye fan and he could always be seen during the game wearing his ragged Buckeye shirt for good luck. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him.
Preceded in death by his brother, Michal Joseph Engel and two special aunts, Marie and Irene.
He is survived by wife, Nancy Ann Engel; sisters-in-law, Janet Sue Monk and Beth Hill; brother-in-law, G. Thomas Hill; two daughters, Cheryl Lynn Colegrove and Lori Ann Davis; bonus daughter, Rita Sprouse; two granddaughters, Lesley Weaver and Jeri Young; five great grandchildren, Alaina and Chase Weaver, Elijah, Eden and baby, Cooper Young. These were all his step children but Jim always hated the word STEP. To him they were all his kids.
Family and friends may visit 5-7:00pm on Wednesday, September 13, at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME, 550 Hill Rd. N. Pickerington, OH 43147. A funeral service will begin at 10:00am on Thursday, September 14, at the funeral home. Interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
