Stephen "Steve" G. Smith

Stephen “Steve” G. Smith, age 70, of Johnstown, formerly of Canal Winchester, died Sunday, January 21, 2018 at the James Cancer Hospital. He was born January 5, 1948 in Columbus, Ohio. Steve was a 1966 graduate of Canal Winchester High School. He worked for the Madison Township Fire Department, where he retired from as Captain. Steve was a lifelong farmer, who enjoyed collecting tractors. He was a part of Johnstown Monroe’s Softball Program for the past 15 years and head coach for the last 8. Steve was a fan of the Cincinnati Reds and The Ohio State Buckeyes. He is preceded in death by his father, Gerald B. Smith. Steve is survived by his daughters, Katie (Joe Martin) Smith, Mikala Smith, Wendy, Amy, Lori; grandchildren, Kristi, Austin, Travis, Hannah, Taylor, Bailey, Violet, Kaydan; mother, Betty J. Smith; sister, Susan (Mick) Kistler; nephew, Jeff (Christy) Hunter; aunt, Dorothy Nolan. Family and friends may visit from 4-7:00 pm on Wednesday, January 24 at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME, 650 W. Waterloo St., Canal Winchester, Ohio 43110 where a funeral service, officiated by Pastor Leslie Fox, will follow at 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Steve’s memory can be made to a special fund in care of the funeral home.
