William Earl Clinger, age 90, of Lithopolis, departed this life Friday, November 3, 2017 in Delaware, Ohio. Born December 19, 1926 in Obetz to the late Walter L. and Edna (Michael) Clinger. He was a graduate of Groveport High School. During WWII he was a sergeant in the 347th Harborcraft Division of the U.S. Army Engineer Corps and was stationed in Yokohama, Japan with the army of occupation.
A graduate of Franklin University, in 1991 he retired after 45 years with the Nationwide Life Insurance Co. He was a summer employee of Pine Hill Golf Course in Carroll and was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Canal Winchester. Bill was a life member of VFW Post 3761, Baltimore, and a Past Commander of VFW Post 3863, Canal Winchester.
Preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn “Kay” (Stewart) Clinger on July 26.
Survived by his son, W. Stewart (Julie) Clinger, Delaware; grandson, Jon (Bonnie) Clinger, Delaware; great-grandchildren, Leanne and Ashley Clinger, Shelby Allen, and Dylan Hardgrove; great-great-granddaughters, Azalia and Harlyn Allen; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may visit 10 am to 12 noon Wednesday at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME, 650 W. Waterloo St., Canal Winchester. Services will be private. Entombment at Lithopolis Cemetery.
