Raymond Kenneth Tompkins, age 78, of Pickerington, died Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. Born July 2, 1939 in Ft. Lewis, WA to the late Raymond K. and Albertina Claire (Johnson) Tompkins. He was a graduate of Newport Beach (CA) High School, and proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He felt blessed to live in this country and was passionately patriotic. He retired from Boeing and Swedish Hospital in Seattle, WA. He enjoyed traveling, especially to southern California, where he grew up in what he thought was the perfect place for a child, remodeling, and following conservative politics and current events.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Wilma (Weaver) Tompkins; daughter, Teri (Richard Swart) Johnson, Pickerington; son, Eric (Ashley Rupp-Tompkins) Tompkins, Tumwater, WA; and the joy of his life, grandchildren, Matthew Johnson, Andrew Johnson, Joseph Johnson, and Lauren Tompkins.
He was preceded in death by his half-brother, Floyd Nebenfuhr.
Friends may visit 5-8 pm Tuesday at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME, 550 Hill Road N. (St. Rt. #256), Pickerington. There will be a Vigil Service at 7:45 pm. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 600 Hill Road N., Pickerington, with Fr. James Klima, Celebrant. Interment with military honors will follow at 1 pm at New Lexington Cemetery.
His family appreciates the excellent care he received at Riverside Hospital, especially Dr. Skully, the pulmonary team, and the entire nursing staff, especially Amanda.
